Sejong City will award up to 100,000 points to drivers participating in the Carbon Neutral Points System (automobile sector) who reduce their vehicle mileage.
This system is operated in collaboration with the Korea Environment Corporation, which evaluates the reduction performance of vehicle mileage and provides benefits accordingly.
The purpose is to encourage the reduction of mileage for non-commercial vehicles, thereby reducing greenhouse gases in the transportation sector and expanding fine dust reduction.
The city will recruit 900 vehicles on a first-come, first-served basis from the 27th of this month to the 7th of next month. Eligible vehicles are non-commercial passenger cars and vans (up to 12 seats) registered in Sejong, using gasoline, diesel, or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as fuel.
Applicants must complete their application on the Carbon Neutral Points System website by the deadline.
The mileage reduction performance is automatically calculated by uploading photos of the vehicle’s license plate and odometer to the website at the start and end of participation.
Only one vehicle per owner can apply, and participation is only possible with photos taken during the recruitment period.
The city plans to provide benefits of up to 100,000 KRW based on the reduction performance. Last year, a total of 33.54 million KRW was paid to owners of 454 vehicles that reduced their mileage.
Kim Hoesan, head of the Environmental Policy Division of the city, said, “We ask for active participation and interest from citizens in the Carbon Neutral Points System, which allows energy savings and benefits.”
