According to the county on the 27th, about 500 people attended the memorial ceremony, including Kim Seong, the governor of Jangheung-gun, Wang Yunchae, chairman of the Jangheung County Council, local organizations, and relatives of the Juksan An clan.
The memorial ceremony, which began with a traditional ritual, proceeded in the order of a report on An Jung-geun’s biography, reading of his will, memorial performances, and flower offering and incense burning.
Haedongsa Temple is the only shrine in the country enshrining An Jung-geun.
In 1955, the Juksan An clan of Jangheung, saddened by the fact that there were no descendants of An Jung-geun of the Sunheung An clan to hold memorial rites, built the shrine and enshrined his portrait and memorial tablet.

Jangheung-gun is reconstructing the Haedongsa area as a memorial space through the ‘An Jung-geun Historical and Cultural Resource Development Project.’
So far, 7 billion won has been invested to complete infrastructure such as a patriotic exploration trail around Haedongsa.
This year, the county plans to build a memorial history hall honoring An Jung-geun’s achievements and reflecting the local identity, to be used as an educational and experiential site for students nationwide.
Governor Kim Seong said, “The spirit of patriotism and the dream of world peace shown by An Jung-geun will be widely promoted through Haedongsa,” adding, “The ongoing project to honor An Jung-geun will be enhanced in completeness and utilized as a local historical and cultural resource.”
