Dell Technologies Match Play Young 'Dominates'
McIlroy 3rd, Defending Champ Scheffler 4th
Sam Burns (USA) has been crowned the 'Match King.'
World No. 15 Burns defeated world No. 17 Cameron Young (USA) by 6 holes in the final of the World Golf Championships (WGC) Series Dell Technologies Match Play (total prize money $20 million) held on the afternoon of the 26th (local time) at Austin Country Club (par 71, 7,108 yards) in Austin, Texas, USA. This marks his 5th career win, his first in 10 months since the Charles Schwab Challenge on the PGA Tour last May, with a winner's prize of $3.5 million (approximately 4.55 billion KRW).

Earlier that day, Burns caused an upset by defeating world No. 1 and defending champion Scottie Scheffler (USA) in the 21st hole of the semifinal. In the final, Burns trailed by 1 hole until the 4th hole (par 3), then won holes 5 through 8 to quickly turn the match around. He secured the victory early by making birdies on the 10th hole (par 4), 12th hole (par 5), and 13th hole (par 4). Burns exclaimed, "I have been preparing for this tournament for 3 to 4 weeks. I am so happy to have won."
Young won a 19-hole battle against world No. 3 Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland) in the semifinals but struggled with his shots in the final and was unable to perform well. Young, who was hoping for his first win in his 37th PGA Tour event since his debut, had to settle for his 6th runner-up finish.
McIlroy defeated Scheffler by 2 holes in the third-place match. McIlroy took an early lead by 3 holes through the 5th hole (par 4) and closed out the match on the 17th hole (par 3). The Dell Technologies Match Play, which began in 1999, will be held for the last time this year as Dell will cease sponsorship starting next year. The Houston Open will move to this slot next year.
