Jeon Woo-won (27), the grandson of the late former President Jeon Du-hwan, announced that he will arrive in Korea on the 28th and apologize to the victims of the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement.
On the 26th, Jeon shared on his social media service (SNS) his flight reservation details showing that he will depart from JFK Airport in New York on the 27th and arrive at Incheon International Airport early on the 28th. He said, "If I am not immediately detained by government authorities upon arrival in Korea, I want to unpack my luggage and apologize to the families of the May 18 victims and all those who suffered mental harm."
Jeon also stated, "I am sorry for hurting many people, including the families of the May 18 victims who trusted and supported me, due to my ignorance and shortcomings," and added, "I will apologize and accept punishment as much as my family and I have done wrong."
Earlier, on the 14th, Jeon revealed that he is the grandson of the former president and continued to expose his family’s corruption, including living a luxurious life with 'black money' laundered by his family. He also disclosed acquaintances’ drug use and sexual crimes. On the 17th, during a live broadcast on SNS, Jeon was hospitalized after taking drugs; his lungs stopped for more than three hours, and his airway was closed, requiring intubation before he recovered and was discharged.
Meanwhile, on the 24th, Jeon expressed his intention to donate his assets and said he would stop making further revelations during an Instagram live broadcast. He also said, "I want to apologize to my family, friends, acquaintances, and everyone who knows me," adding, "I acted crazily, exposing everything, saying I would live alone and repent. I am a sinner. That’s why I deleted all the posts."
At the time of his initial revelations, he said, "I think my grandfather is a mass murderer," and added, "He is not a hero who protected the country but merely a criminal."
