Suwon District Court: "Difficult to Recognize the Necessity of Detention Based on Submitted Materials"
The arrest warrant for Nam Mo (32), the eldest son of former Gyeonggi Province Governor Nam Kyung-pil, who was arrested on charges of methamphetamine use, was dismissed by the court on the 25th.
The Suwon District Court held a warrant review hearing for Nam, who is accused of violating the Narcotics Control Act, and dismissed the arrest warrant. Judge Kim Ju-yeon stated, "Based on the materials submitted so far, it is difficult to recognize the necessity of detention," explaining the reason for dismissal.
Nam is suspected of having used methamphetamine once at an apartment in Giheung-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi Province on the 23rd. Nam's family, who were at the residence at the time, reported to the police. Former Governor Nam was reportedly absent.
Nam was arrested on the spot by the police and was in a state of drug intoxication to the extent that normal communication was impossible. A rapid drug test conducted on a syringe believed to have been used for drug injection detected methamphetamine.
When Nam appeared at the court after being released from Yongin Dongbu Police Station that day, he did not respond to questions from reporters such as "Do you admit to the charges?", "Where did you get the methamphetamine?", and "Do you have any comments for your family, including your father?" and got into the transport vehicle.
In 2017, Nam was also indicted and detained on charges of multiple methamphetamine uses and marijuana smoking, and was sentenced to three years in prison with a four-year probation period.
