Respectful Congratulations to Seniors Turning 100: 300,000 KRW Longevity Celebration Fund and Health Products Worth 200,000 KRW Provided

"We Will Make Further Proactive Efforts to Create an Elder-Friendly City Where Seniors Are Happy"

Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced that it will provide a longevity celebration fund of 300,000 KRW and congratulatory items worth 200,000 KRW to seniors turning 100 years old in the district.

In response to the aging era, the district enacted the Ordinance on the Provision of Longevity Celebration Funds in November 2012 to contribute to the welfare of the elderly and foster a social atmosphere of respect for the elderly. Since then, it has continuously provided longevity celebration funds and congratulatory items to elderly residents reaching advanced age.

The recipients are seniors born in 1923 who have been registered residents living in the district for more than one year, with approximately 18 seniors eligible.

Recipients receive a longevity celebration fund of 300,000 KRW and longevity congratulatory items worth up to 200,000 KRW. The fund is deposited by the end of the following month if applied for on the first day of the birthday month. Seniors can select from eight health aid products such as massage chairs and foot massagers, which are personally delivered by the head of the local community service center.

Seongdong-gu has been proactively preparing for the acceleration of entering a super-aged society and the resulting changes in the local community. In 2019, the district enacted the Ordinance on Creating an Elder-Friendly City, and in October 2020, it joined the WHO Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities, sharing elder-friendly policies with 1,500 cities worldwide.

Mayor Jung Won-oh stated, “We sincerely congratulate our seniors on their 100th birthday and will do our best to create a Seongdong-style elder-friendly city where all generations can live well in preparation for a super-aged society.”
