On the occasion of the 78th Arbor Day, Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it held a tree planting event with residents on the 24th in the Namsan Village area of Damyang-eup.

About 300 people, including County Governor Lee Byeong-no, Chairman Choi Yong-man of the Damyang County Council and council members, related organizations, forestry workers, public officials, students, and local residents, participated in the event and planted a total of approximately 4,500 trees such as Chinese hackberry, zelkova, maple, and hydrangea.

In particular, an area that had been illegally cultivated for several years was transformed into a green space through continuous consultations with village residents, turning it into a resting place for the community.

Governor Lee Byeong-no said, “Various forest damages such as fine dust and wildfires caused by recent global warming are becoming increasingly severe,” adding, “We expect that each tree planted today will greatly contribute to creating a better living environment for future generations.”

Meanwhile, Damyang-gun has been promoting economic tree planting and large tree public afforestation projects over an area of 70 hectares since March this year to respond to climate change, and plans to carry out afforestation projects in the fall to reduce fine dust.
