District Mayor Kim Tae-woo: “We Will Create an Eco-friendly Smart Government Building to Lead 100 Years of Gangseo Renaissance”
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Kim Tae-woo) announced that on the 6th, it selected the construction company for the integrated new government building through the Public Procurement Service, and will accelerate construction starting with the ‘Cultural Groundbreaking Ceremony’ with residents on April 12th.
The integrated new government building, located in Magok District, the transportation hub of southwestern Seoul, will be built on a 20,244㎡ site at 745-3 Magok-dong, with 2 basement floors, 8 above-ground floors, and a total floor area of 59,377㎡.
Magok District is a metropolitan center of Seoul and the economic hub of the southwestern area, equipped with convenient transportation, various cultural facilities, parks, and other living infrastructure, making it a very convenient place to live.
Once completed, the integrated new government building is expected to create a synergy effect for Gangseo’s development along with the Magok MICE Complex, LG Arts Center, and Seoul Botanic Park, becoming a representative cultural city of Seoul and the central axis of the future city Gangseo.
Mayor Kim instructed that residents’ convenience be prioritized throughout the process of constructing the integrated new government building.
He also emphasized realizing an open government building that serves not only administrative functions but also as a space where families can visit on holidays to enjoy leisure and relaxation.
The new building will house the district office, district council, and health center all in one place to implement one-stop administration, improving the quality of administrative services and enabling resident-centered governance.
In addition to government facilities, the building will include open plazas, resting areas, daycare centers, kids cafes, and other convenience facilities for residents, as well as cultural spaces such as open libraries, children’s libraries, cultural resting areas, and book cafes, making it an open and cultural government building with leisure and relaxation.
District Mayor Kim Tae-woo expressed confidence, saying, “Through the construction of the integrated new government building, we will realize resident-centered administrative services by enabling one-stop administration, interdepartmental collaboration, and improved work methods for efficient task handling. We will develop it into an eco-friendly smart government building that looks ahead 100 years for Gangseo-gu, a cultural and open government building equipped with resident convenience and cultural facilities, and a future city.”
The district is also working on transforming the current Hwaggok-dong government building into a complex cultural facility simultaneously with the relocation to the new building.
The current government building will be developed into a public complex cultural facility with exhibition halls, performance venues, libraries, kids cafes, a comprehensive childcare support center, parking lots, and other cultural facilities in line with the move to the new building.
District Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “The integrated new government building and the public complex cultural facility to be established on the site of the current government building will serve as cultural anchor facilities for the new town centered on Magok and the old town including Hwaggok, forming a growth axis for regional development and creating a high-quality balanced city full of culture and arts.”
