"Falling into the 'Innovator's Dilemma'? Harsh Criticism Continues for Google Chatbot 'Bard'"

Negative Reviews Emerge Among Users After Launch
"Failure to Innovate Will Lead to Threats"

Google's artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot 'Bard' has been evaluated as inferior to Microsoft's (MS) search engine 'Bing.' Previously, MS enhanced its search capabilities by integrating the chatbot 'ChatGPT,' developed by OpenAI, into Bing. However, the combination of Google Search and Bard has reportedly failed to catch up.

According to the American economic media outlet 'Business Insider' on the 23rd (local time), Google has been conducting Bard tests for some users in the United States, the United Kingdom, and other countries since the 21st, but some users have expressed dissatisfaction with Bard's performance.

For example, Marques Brownlee, the United States' largest tech YouTuber with 16.7 million subscribers known as 'MKBHD,' pointed out on his official Twitter account, "I tried using Google Bard and didn't expect it to say things like this. So far, Bing is far ahead of Bard."

Brownlee is not the only one who has criticized Bard's performance. Edin Molik, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, said, "It may be too early to judge, but Google's Bard does not seem to have the capability as a learning tool comparable to MS's Bing or OpenAI's latest GPT-4." Professor Molik tested Bard's performance by instructing it to create poetry and reportedly showed a noticeably inferior performance compared to Bing.

Film director David Lynch said, "The movie script created with GPT-4 was exciting, but Bard produced something ordinary." He also reported that Bard lagged behind Bing in word puzzle experiments.

Regarding this, 'Business Insider' pointed out, "Google is caught in the innovator's dilemma," adding, "Failing to innovate could expose it to threats." As a result of Google falling behind MS in the commercial application of AI technology, its core business in the search sector could also be shaken.

Meanwhile, MS has been releasing various AI-related products, such as integrating GPT-series AI into its search engine 'Bing' through a sudden collaboration with ChatGPT developer OpenAI, and embedding AI into its office software.
