The National Police Hospital branch will open in Asan, Chungnam in 2028.
On the 24th, Chungnam Province announced that Kim Tae-heum, Governor of Chungnam Province, Yoon Hee-geun, Commissioner of the National Police Agency, Park Kyung-gwi, Mayor of Asan, and Kim Jin-hak, Director of the National Police Hospital, met at the Asan Police Talent Development Institute to sign the "Police Hospital Branch Establishment Promotion Business Agreement."
The agreement was signed to ensure smooth progress of the police hospital branch establishment project through mutual support and cooperation among related organizations.
According to the agreement, the Police Hospital will cooperate by providing consultation on branch facilities, equipment, and system operations, as well as professional technology and medical personnel necessary to enhance healthcare services.
The province and Asan City will provide administrative support such as financial aid and permits, improve accessibility by establishing bus routes, enhance surrounding residential conditions, and build and support various infrastructures.
In particular, these three organizations plan to apply for exemption from the preliminary feasibility study and form a working council to operate with the goal of opening the police hospital branch in 2028.
Additionally, the province will form a task force led by the Deputy Governor for Political Affairs to lead efforts in shortening permits for the police hospital branch establishment and support projects, responding to feasibility studies, and securing government budgets.
Previously, the province secured the police hospital branch in Asan in December last year. The police hospital branch will be built as a top-tier general hospital on 81,118㎡ of idle land at the Police Talent Development Institute in Chosa-dong, Asan City.
After opening, it will operate with 550 beds, 2 centers, and 23 medical departments, with about 1,000 medical staff residing on-site.
The province expects that once the police hospital branch opens, it will expand public medical welfare services outside the metropolitan area, provide medical welfare for police officers, improve medical services for residents, expand public medical hub hospitals, establish a medical response system for special disasters, promote regional balanced development, and drive development in the western area of Asan.
Governor Kim Tae-heum said, “We will make every effort to ensure the police hospital branch opens smoothly in 2028 by responding to feasibility studies and securing government budgets, shortening administrative procedures such as permits, and promoting urban development projects. Just as Sejong is the administrative capital and Nonsan and Gyeryong are the defense capitals, we will foster Asan as the city of 140,000 police officers and the root of the police.”
