Ministry of Education to Implement Various Programs with Hanguk Saengmyeongui Jeonhwa
Samsung-affiliated financial companies are partnering with the Ministry of Education to carry out projects related to youth suicide prevention.
On the 24th, Samsung Financial Networks, a joint brand of Samsung Group’s financial companies, announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) the previous day at the Samsung Financial Campus in Seocho-gu, Seoul, with the Ministry of Education and Korea Life Line to promote the "Youth Life Respect Project."
This initiative is part of the Ministry of Education’s "Measures to Promote Student Mental Health and Support Students in Crisis," aimed at strengthening the mental health of middle and high school students nationwide and spreading a culture of life respect within schools. The MOU was signed with the understanding that the issue of youth suicide should not rely solely on schools but requires active participation and responsibility from various sectors of society, including the government and corporations.
Through this MOU, the following will be promoted: ▲the expansion of the "Mind Protection Training (HSB)" program for youth mental health promotion ▲the promotion of school life respect activities through the training of middle and high school student mentors called "Raiki" and university student mentors ▲the operation of social networking service (SNS) counseling channels to provide professional counseling support at different stages of youth crisis.
The "Mind Protection Training" and "Raiki Training" programs will be piloted at three schools starting in March, and in 2024, with the launch of the SNS counseling channels, they will be expanded to middle and high schools nationwide.
Jang Sang-yoon, Vice Minister of Education, stated, "It is expected to greatly contribute to improving the mental health of youth, who are the future leaders, through proactive preventive support activities such as protecting and supporting the mental health of young people."
Jeon Young-mook, CEO of Samsung Life Insurance, said, "Based on Samsung’s know-how in youth education-centered social contribution activities that it has focused on so far, we will protect youth from suicide and support and cheer for young people to realize their dreams and hopes through 'schools with healthy minds.'"
