"Late Comedian, If Only She Knew This Cosmetic" Controversy Over Yoonanhee, Million-Dollar Host's Harsh Remarks

Controversy Over Inappropriate Explanation During Live Broadcast
Broadcasting Review Committee Receives and Reviews Consumer Complaints

Yoo Nan-hee, famous as a "hundred-million-won salary show host," became embroiled in controversy due to offensive remarks made during a live broadcast. She reportedly made comments that seemed to link the efficacy of cosmetics to a comedian who died from worsening skin disease.

According to Aju Economy on the 23rd, Yoo became the subject of review after consumer complaints were filed with the Korea Communications Standards Commission (hereafter KCSC) regarding her remarks.

The KCSC Advertising Review Subcommittee held a meeting on the 14th to review the CJ OnStyle cosmetics sales broadcast.

A consumer who watched the broadcast stated, "It reminded me of comedian A, who ended her life due to worsening skin disease," criticizing Yoo's inappropriate language. The Advertising Subcommittee decided not to mention the real name out of consideration for the pain of the bereaved family.

The remark was made during a live broadcast on the 4th of last month, where Yoo was selling cosmetics using stem cells. At that time, she said something to the effect of, "I thought of a certain comedian. I wish she had known about this (stem cell cultured cosmetics)."

One viewer pointed out, "Mentioning Ms. A and expressing regret that she might have known about this product, without presenting clinical evidence, crosses the line by expressing the misfortune of a family."

CJ OnStyle's Broadcast Review System Also Under Fire

CJ OnStyle's broadcast review system also came under scrutiny, as Yoo's problematic remarks were not filtered out during production and were aired without any censorship. The KCSC Advertising Review Subcommittee judged the case as a violation of the "Regulations on Product Introduction and Sales Broadcast Review" and issued a request for explanation.

This is a process where the KCSC gives the company an opportunity to explain before imposing sanctions.

CJ OnStyle stated, "There was no direct mention of real names, and Yoo Nan-hee apologized for the remarks through the broadcast."

Previously, show host Jung Yoon-jung caused controversy by swearing during a home shopping live broadcast for cosmetics sales on January 28. At that time, many complaints were filed with the KCSC, and after engaging in disputes with netizens, Jung apologized on the 17th.
