Jinhae Gunhangje Safety, Gyeongnam Police Agency DJ Police Will Take Care

170 People on Weekdays, 250 on Weekends

Total Mobilization of Approximately 2,270 Experienced Personnel

At the 61st Jinhae Gunhang Festival, the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency will deploy the 'DJ Police' to manage safety at the event venue.

The Provincial Police Agency announced that, anticipating large crowds at the Jinhae Gunhang Festival held face-to-face for the first time in four years, they will flexibly deploy crowd management vehicles called DJ Police throughout the event site from the 24th to the 26th.

According to the Provincial Police Agency, the DJ Police is a vehicle with a 2-meter-high van on which male and female police officers monitor the crowd density and make announcements as needed. The vehicle is equipped with LED signs on four railings that display guidance messages.

These vehicles have been used overseas for large-scale crowd management for a long time, and were first introduced in South Korea at the 2022 Busan Fireworks Festival to manage crowd safety.

The Provincial Police Agency plans to deploy the DJ Police during periods when tourists are concentrated, and simultaneously mobilize a total of about 2,270 officers during the Gunhang Festival period, with 170 officers on weekdays and 250 officers on weekends per day.

On the 29th, when the fireworks display will take place, personnel will be operated at levels equivalent to weekend staffing.

A representative of the Provincial Police Agency said, “Public interest in crowd management has increased since the Itaewon tragedy in Seoul, and inspired by the successful use of DJ Police for crowd management by the Busan Police Agency last year, we have temporarily introduced the DJ Police at the Jinhae Gunhang Festival.”

He added, “If the effectiveness of the DJ Police is proven at this Jinhae Gunhang Festival, we plan to deploy additional units during the event period to manage the crowds.”
