Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province formed a task force led by Mayor Lee Sang-il on the 23rd to smoothly promote the establishment of the National Advanced Industrial Complex for System Semiconductors in Namsa and Idong-eup.
Yongin City explained that the task force was organized with the participation of all relevant city departments, companies, and related organizations. Going forward, it will participate in the pan-government task force to convey the city's stance, opinions, and citizens' voices to the government and companies, and establish channels for consultation with the government.
On the same day, the city held a meeting chaired by Mayor Lee Sang-il to review the detailed procedures and schedule for the establishment of the National Advanced Industrial Complex and to check preliminary matters for shortening the period.
The task force inspected all administrative procedures necessary for the establishment of the National Advanced Industrial Complex, including ▲ water and power supply ▲ expansion of infrastructure such as roads and railways ▲ compensation and relocation measures for citizens and companies within the national industrial complex candidate site ▲ additional measures for the development of the hinterland city ▲ regulations related to the installation of various infrastructure.
Mayor Lee said, "Although it is a national industrial complex, since it is being established in Yongin City, there will be parts where we need to provide assistance and many aspects where our position must be actively reflected, so thorough preparation is necessary." He added, "Regarding compensation and relocation measures, expansion of transportation infrastructure, development of the hinterland city, and deregulation issues, we will ensure that the city's plans are reflected."
He emphasized, "Residents and companies included in the project area will have significant concerns about compensation and relocation issues," and added, "The city must make efforts to listen to and reflect the opinions of citizens and companies as much as possible to prepare reasonable and fair measures."
The National Advanced Industrial Complex, to be established over 7.1 million square meters (2.15 million pyeong) in Idong-eup and Namsa-eup, Cheoin-gu, will host Samsung Electronics' construction of five advanced system semiconductor manufacturing plants, as well as over 150 domestic and international materials, parts, and equipment companies and fabless (semiconductor design specialized) companies.
The government has announced plans to make Yongin the world's largest semiconductor mega cluster. Samsung Electronics' investment amount is 300 trillion won by 2042, with a direct and indirect production inducement effect of 700 trillion won and an employment effect of 1.6 million people.
