Kim stated that this was his first on-site Supreme Council schedule since becoming party leader, saying, "The leadership of the United Future Party kneeled and paid respects in Gwangju, and over a hundred people attended the May 18th memorial ceremony in the president's first year in office with the same heart," and added, "When I became floor leader and acting party leader two years ago, my first step was also Honam."
He said, "This is not a one-time event; we will surely nurture the long-neglected Jeonbuk, especially Jeonju, with affection going forward," and urged support for candidate Kim Kyung-il, who is running in the Jeonju Jeonbuk Eul by-election.
Kim continued, "Candidate Kim is an advisor to the Jeonbuk Provincial Party and has already accumulated extensive experience and is regarded as a senior figure in the region," and stated, "This by-election is being held because former lawmaker Lee Sang-jik of the Democratic Party lost his seat due to violations of election laws and corruption charges. Kim, a clean candidate with no criminal record, must be elected."
On the same day, candidate Kim presented eight major pledges to leader Kim, including ▲100,000 youth jobs ▲creation of a digital platform valley ▲attracting Korea Investment Corporation ▲establishment of Jeonju Institute of Science and Technology, expressing his ambition by saying, "I believe that if not this opportunity, Jeonju in our Honam cannot regain Honam's glory."
Candidate Kim said, "This election will be a starting point to revive our Jeonju," and added, "I will develop Jeonju's underdeveloped industrial ecosystem into a digital platform, truly a high-tech industrial city, and create 100,000 jobs where young people can settle in Jeonju."
He emphasized, "Leader Kim promised that the party would guarantee and fully support the pledges I have presented."
Jeonbuk-born proportional representative lawmaker Jung Woon-chun also attended the meeting and mentioned the era of Jeonbuk Special Autonomous Province, saying, "We are preparing 310 special ordinance regulations, but without the ruling party's help, we cannot establish them immediately," and added, "In this context, candidate Kim Kyung-min must achieve meaningful results so that our party can support special autonomy and help resolve various issues such as Saemangeum."
