Hanwha Corporation's Construction Division is actively promoting developer-type projects in the data center sector, which has high future growth potential, based on extensive construction experience.
Hanwha Corporation's Construction Division has accumulated various data center construction achievements based on its technical expertise and construction experience. Since 2007, it has built large-scale data centers commissioned by leading domestic companies such as KT Gangnam IDC, Hanwha Systems ICT Division Jukjeon Data Center, Shinhan Financial Group Data Center, NICE Group IT Center, NH Integrated IT Center, and MG Saemaeul Geumgo IT Center. In December last year, it successfully completed the Dongtan Samsung SDS Data Center and is currently progressing smoothly with the Ansan Kakao Data Center construction.
Beyond simple construction, it is also actively promoting developer-type projects that participate proactively in development. In July last year, Hanwha Corporation's Construction Division signed a win-win cooperation agreement with Changwon City, Korea Industrial Complex Corporation Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters, LG CNS, and Anda Asset Management for the establishment of the Changwon IDC Cluster. The Changwon IDC is being developed on a hyper-scale scale with a total floor area of 44,000㎡, capable of accommodating more than 100,000 servers. Approximately 400 billion KRW of private capital is expected to be invested.
Data centers are experiencing rapid demand growth as the digital era accelerates with the expansion of cloud services, popularization of video streaming services, and advancements in the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Especially after COVID-19, as non-face-to-face interactions increased, data processing volumes have exploded, further increasing the importance of data centers that store data.
Data centers belong to a construction field with high entry barriers, requiring more demanding design and construction technology and experience than general construction projects. Above all, since numerous servers and computer equipment operate 24 hours a day, stability is the most important factor. Additionally, servers are very sensitive to surrounding environments such as humidity, temperature, and power supply, so efficient cooling and power systems must be in place. Earthquake-resistant design strong against vibrations, noise prevention, dust and water protection, and various security systems controlling access are also essential.
Park Cheol-gwang, Head of the Development Business Division, said, "Based on our long-standing know-how in the data center field, we are actively promoting hyper-scale data centers and data center remodeling projects. We plan to further strengthen our developer capabilities to lead projects from the development stage beyond simple construction."
