Kishida Visits Poland After Ukraine: "ODA Support... Continuing Sanctions Against Russia"

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida emphasized the continuation of sanctions against Russia for the early end of the Russia-Ukraine war not only in Ukraine but also in neighboring Poland, NHK reported on the 22nd.

According to the report, Prime Minister Kishida moved to Warsaw, the capital of Poland, on the same day and held a summit meeting with Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, where he made these remarks.

At a joint press conference after the summit, Kishida expressed gratitude, saying that Poland is playing a major role on the front lines as a base for humanitarian and military support for Ukraine. He also mentioned that Poland's burden is increasing due to the prolonged war and stated that support would be provided through Official Development Assistance (ODA).

Kishida also stressed the need to continue sanctions against Russia. He said, "To stop Russia's invasion of Ukraine as soon as possible, it is important to continue strict sanctions against Russia."

Prior to this, Kishida visited Ukraine and met with President Volodymyr Zelensky. The two leaders announced in a joint statement that they would elevate bilateral relations to a "special global partnership," while demanding the cessation of hostile acts by Russian forces, immediate withdrawal of troops and equipment, and the restoration of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
