Pohang City has completed the spring renovation of the ‘Naeyeonsan Healing Forest,’ located in the Songra-myeon area of Buk-gu, and has officially begun its operation.
Situated about 1 km from Bokyungsa Temple, the ‘Naeyeonsan Healing Forest’ is one of 45 healing forests nationwide, opened in June 2021, and is also the first public healing forest in the Gyeongbuk region.
The city has reorganized the space within the Naeyeonsan Healing Center, improved the foot bath facilities, and planted outdoor flowering plants. Over the past year, while conducting forest healing programs, they identified areas needing operational improvements and have newly refurbished them to provide visitors with better forest healing services.
Main facilities include a healing center with a total floor area of 833㎡ and two above-ground floors, housing a health measurement room, a cypress foot bath, and a multipurpose auditorium. Outdoors, there are facilities such as a forest bathing area, an anion wind bath, a meditation rest area, and deck roads, along with a high-quality pine tree grove rich in phytoncides.
‘Forest healing’ refers to a natural therapy that utilizes various environmental elements of the forest, such as natural scenery, scents, and anions, to boost the human immune system and restore health. Recently, as interest in forests as places for health promotion and disease healing has increased and demand for specialized services has grown, it has been receiving greater attention.
The main programs offered include singing bowl meditation, foot bath therapy, forest health calisthenics, five-sense walking meditation, and barefoot walking. Among these, singing bowl meditation is one of the most popular programs among visitors, where the low sound waves gently spreading when striking the singing bowl, a traditional Tibetan instrument, help to relax the mind.
A city official stated, “Naeyeonsan Healing Forest is a special healing space where citizens can find stability for their tired bodies and minds. We will continue to do our best in operating the healing forest so that it receives much use and love in the future.”
