Lee Jae-hyeop Appointed as New Director of Boramae Hospital: "Will Present a New Model for Public Healthcare"

Seoul Metropolitan Boramae Hospital announced on the afternoon of the 22nd that it held the inauguration and retirement ceremony of the hospital director in the main auditorium on the 6th floor of Jinrigwan within the hospital. Through this ceremony, the 20th director Jeong Seung-yong retired, and the 21st director Lee Jae-hyeop was inaugurated.

The event was attended by key figures including former hospital directors, Yoo Hong-rim, president of Seoul National University, Kim Jeong-eun, dean of Seoul National University College of Medicine, Kim Young-tae, director of Seoul National University Hospital, and Park Yu-mi, director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government Citizen Health Bureau.


In his inaugural speech, the new director Lee Jae-hyeop stated, "We will do our best to proactively respond to the medical environment facing a major turning point and fulfill the era's mission of presenting a new model of public healthcare." Specifically, he outlined the hospital's future operational directions as ▲expansion and advancement of public healthcare infrastructure ▲establishment of a systematic and proactive infectious disease response system ▲leap toward a research-centered hospital ▲customer-friendly hospital ▲creation of a workplace where all staff are happy.


Based on the clinical capabilities of Seoul National University Hospital medical staff, the hospital will fulfill the role of a tertiary hospital within the public healthcare system and plans to proceed with construction and facility planning during his term to ensure the smooth opening of the long-awaited 'Safe Respiratory Specialist Center,' a project since the MERS outbreak. Furthermore, to advance as a research-centered hospital, the hospital will internally expand the personnel and facilities of the Data Science Center at the Institute of Life Sciences. Efforts will also continue to improve service design to become a customer-friendly hospital, establish a patient safety culture, strengthen staff capabilities, and establish sound labor-management relations.


The new director said, "Boramae Hospital now stands at the crossroads of innovation to lead public healthcare in the Republic of Korea," and added, "I will do my best in my duties by utilizing all the capabilities I have acquired while serving at the hospital."


Director Lee graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine in 1995 and has served as deputy director of Boramae Hospital, head of the Public Healthcare Headquarters, and director of the Disaster Medical Support Team.
