Okgwa Library in Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) announced that it will operate various reading culture events in April to celebrate the ‘59th Library Week’ and ‘World Book Day,’ which everyone, including children and residents, can enjoy.
The ‘Library Week’ event, hosted by the Korean Library Association and participated in by all libraries nationwide, will be held. This event takes place annually from April 12 to 18 to widely promote the value and necessity of libraries.
The official theme of this year’s ‘Library Week’ is ‘The Light of Culture Shining Without Boundaries, Library.’ On April 23, designated by UNESCO as ‘World Book Day,’ a reading promotion campaign will also be conducted.
Major events at Okgwa Library during Library Week include experiential programs such as the children’s musical performance ‘Red Riding Hood,’ a one-day class on making terrariums, and a Fun Fun cooking class. On ‘World Book Day,’ users who borrow five or more books will receive a flower pot as a gift.
On April 22, Okgwa Residents’ Day, a book camping site will be operated as a reading experience healing space at Okgwa Elementary School.
Various programs will be held, including the distribution of free recommended books for 4th and 5th-grade elementary students through the Book Start Book Wings package, reading the picture book ‘My Dream Is...,’ and making shooting gliders by building paper airplanes.
There will also be events such as ▲lucky fortune cookie giveaways containing reading quotes ▲book curation exhibitions ▲free events for members with borrowing suspensions ▲free distribution of back issues of periodicals ▲and double book borrowing events.
A county official said, “We hope that through these book-scented events prepared by the library, local residents and students will feel closer to the library and that library use will be revitalized.”
