Plans to Continuously Expand Joint Degree Programs with ITS University
President Song Hacheol of Mokpo National University visited ITS (Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember), located in Surabaya, the second largest city in Indonesia, on the 20th, and signed an agreement to establish a joint degree program in the field of computer engineering in addition to the existing joint degree program in naval architecture and ocean engineering.
According to Mokpo National University on the 22nd, Indonesia's ITS University has 250,000 students enrolled across 8 colleges and 41 departments, and is a prestigious national university focused on engineering, ranked within the top 4 comprehensive universities among over 4,000 universities in Indonesia.

The signing ceremony was attended by about 30 people including Mochamad Ashari, President of Indonesia ITS University, Prof. Adi Soeprijanto, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, Bambang Pramujati, Vice President of Planning, Trika Pitana, Dean of the College of Marine Science, Maria Anityasari, Director of International Exchange, and Wasis Dwi Aryawan, Head of the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering.
From Mokpo National University, President Song Hacheol, Vice Dean of Student Affairs Park Kyungseop, Professor Ha Sol of the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Professor Lee Youngho of the Department of Computer Engineering, and Team Leader Yoo Kyunghee of the International Exchange and Education Center attended.
At the event held at Indonesia ITS University, the two universities agreed to strengthen the joint degree program in naval architecture and ocean engineering, which has been jointly operated since 2018, by extending the domestic study semester for Indonesian students by one more semester to enhance education in Korean language and culture. They also discussed the curriculum for the joint degree program in computer engineering and agreed to recruit new students as soon as possible.
The joint degree program in naval architecture and ocean engineering between Mokpo National University and ITS, which started in 2018, produced 28 first-generation graduates in 2022 with no dropouts. Among them, nine Indonesian students found employment in local small and medium-sized enterprises or entered graduate programs, serving as a good example of supplying excellent professionals to local SMEs struggling with labor shortages.
ITS University President Ashari presented President Song Hacheol of Mokpo National University with a plaque of appreciation and stated that "the international joint degree program with Mokpo National University was selected as the best case among ITS's international cooperation projects in 2022," delivering a certificate.
At the event, President Ashari said, "I deeply thank President Song Hacheol for the successful operation of the joint degree program with Mokpo National University, and I hope that the cooperation achievements between the two universities so far will become a success story, expanding international cooperation not only in joint education but also in research fields."
President Song Hacheol stated, "We plan to continuously expand the joint degree program with ITS University, and we will do our best to cultivate excellent global professionals who can resolve the labor shortages of key regional industries and SMEs through effective international cooperation with outstanding foreign universities."
