Namwon-si Launches Intensive Mosquito Larvae Control and Disinfection During Thawing Season

Jeonbuk Namwon City Health Center (Director Han Yong-jae) announced on the 22nd that it has launched a "mosquito larva control and quarantine during the thawing season" in the region to welcome spring.

The Namwon City Health Center has organized a quarantine task force and will carry out mosquito larva control using eco-friendly chemicals targeting residential dense areas with a high possibility of larva habitats such as septic tanks, park restrooms, sumps, sewers, and puddles until the end of next month.

Focused control of larva habitats during the thawing season is a quarantine method that removes mosquito larvae before they hatch into adults by utilizing the characteristic that mosquitoes lay eggs only in certain places.

Controlling one mosquito larva has the effect of eradicating 500 adult mosquitoes, significantly reducing the mosquito population in summer.

Mosquitoes mainly overwinter as eggs and hatch from eggs in February to March, going through the larval stage. During the larval stage, the habitat is limited, and the nutritional status of mosquito larvae is depleted, making it effective to increase insecticidal effects with a small amount of chemicals.

Director Han Yong-jae said, "We will conduct larva control quarantine in vulnerable areas to reduce the mosquito population in summer and prevent infectious diseases transmitted by mosquitoes, such as Japanese encephalitis, in advance."
