'Napla Involvement in Military Service Corruption' Military Service Broker... Partially Denies Additional Indictment Charges

Rapper Nafla (31, real name Choi Seok-bae) and military service broker Gu (47), who was additionally indicted for involvement in military service evasion by clients using the method of 'false epilepsy,' have stated that Gu denies some of the charges.

On the 22nd, Judge Kim Yoon-hee of the Criminal Division 9 at Seoul Southern District Court held the second trial for Gu, who is accused of violating the Military Service Act and other charges. Gu's side stated that although they have not been able to copy the records regarding the additional charges, they "partially deny the allegations." They also said they will submit a written opinion after reviewing the records.


Gu was additionally indicted on the 13th for planning a crime to help Nafla, who could no longer postpone his military service, obtain a social service exemption at the request of an entertainment agency representative. According to the prosecution, Gu instructed Nafla to falsely claim he was experiencing suicidal impulses and receiving psychiatric treatment. On the same day, Gu was also indicted for receiving contract fees from clients and assisting in military service evasion using the 'false epilepsy' diagnosis method.


The prosecution announced that they will also add charges of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes related to Concealment of Criminal Proceeds, which were not included in the initial indictment. According to the prosecution, the total criminal proceeds Gu received amount to 1,383,870,000 KRW.


Previously, Gu was indicted for informing military service obligors on how to obtain a 'false epilepsy' diagnosis and submitting the issued medical certificates to the Military Manpower Administration to reduce their military service obligations from February 2020 to October last year. He admitted to all related charges at the first trial held in January.


The next trial is scheduled for May 10 at 10:10 AM.
