An incident occurred at a high school in Gyeongnam where senior students in grades 2 and 3 collectively assaulted a freshman.
According to the Gyeongnam Office of Education on the 22nd, around 11 p.m. on the 13th, ten students from grades 2 and 3 at a dormitory of high school A in the province assaulted a first-year student, B.
The reason given was that "B's tone of speech was arrogant," and the assault lasted for about 90 minutes.
B's parents, upon seeing their son's physical condition when he returned home for the weekend, reported the school violence to the homeroom teacher and the police on Monday, the 20th.
B was hit on the chest, abdomen, and thighs by the seniors and was diagnosed with a three-week recovery period; he is currently receiving hospital treatment.
The school and the provincial Office of Education immediately began protective measures such as psychological counseling for the victim and took urgent actions against the perpetrators, including prohibiting contact with the victim and suspension from attendance.
The provincial Office of Education plans to investigate the matter through a dedicated school violence task force and follow up with a review committee meeting at the local education support office.
