Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon will hold a 'Climate Response Hand-in-Hand Talk' on the 28th at Saebit Park and Jagyeong Retention Basin in Gwangmyeong City to discuss climate crisis response and carbon neutrality policies.
The Hand-in-Hand Talk began as part of the implementation plan for the joint town hall meetings between the governor and 31 mayors and county heads in the province last year, and it is expanding into a forum for discussing and proposing major provincial policies and local issues.
Initially conducted as a dialogue with residents, the Hand-in-Hand Talk has evolved to broaden its themes and participants according to regional characteristics, such as businesspeople in Hwaseong City in December last year and public officials in Suwon City in March this year.
Gwangmyeong City, which has specialized in climate crisis preparedness by receiving 11 awards in the climate energy sector over the past three years, including the Minister of Environment's Commendation for Climate Energy Policy, will discuss cooperation on carbon neutrality policies between the province and the city at this Hand-in-Hand Talk.
The event will begin with planting carbon-neutral trees together with the Gwangmyeong City 1.5°C Climate Volunteer Corps at Saebit Park. Currently, about 1,000 Gwangmyeong citizens are active in the 1.5°C Climate Volunteer Corps, practicing climate actions in daily life to prevent the Earth's temperature from rising by 1.5°C, which is considered the human limit temperature.
Participants will plant 140 trees of 15 species of trees and shrubs, including Cornus officinalis, and distribute 1,800 trees of 4 species, including cherry trees, to the general public.
Following this, the Hand-in-Hand Talk will feature in-depth discussions on 'Gyeonggi Province's Carbon Neutral Policy Promotion Strategies and Challenges.' The program includes expert presentations to raise awareness and spread understanding of the climate crisis, key phrase talks related to the climate crisis and carbon neutrality, and presentations on the province's carbon neutrality policy strategies and challenges.
The province has a vision of 'Creating New Opportunities through Win-Win Carbon Neutral Policies for Residents and Businesses,' aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030 and achieve complete carbon neutrality by 2050.
To achieve this, the province plans to focus on tasks in various fields, including ▲expanding the supply of renewable energy ▲fostering green industries and just transition through the establishment of RE100 special zones ▲and expanding green infrastructure.
After the Hand-in-Hand Talk, the province will enhance accessibility for residents through various promotional methods, including producing related videos, to activate resident participation.
Yu Tae-il, Director of the Provincial Autonomous Administration Bureau, stated, "Responding to the climate crisis and practicing carbon neutrality is an issue that can no longer be delayed," adding, "We expect the 6th Hand-in-Hand Talk to become an agora for promoting Gyeonggi Province's carbon neutrality policies."
