Simpson's 'Dignified Dismissal'..."A Beautiful Farewell with the Caddy"

PGA Tour 7-Win Joint Caddie Tessori and ‘Farewell’

A dismissal full of dignity.

This is the story of veteran Webb Simpson (USA), who has won seven times on the PGA Tour, including the major US Open. On the 21st (Korean time), he announced the end of his partnership with caddie Paul Tesori, who had been with him for 12 years. Simpson’s post on social media (SNS) around the time of the caddie’s dismissal brought a quiet sense of emotion. It was a different act from players who notify their caddies of dismissal with just a text message.

Simpson's 'Dignified Dismissal'..."A Beautiful Farewell with the Caddy" Webb Simpson (right) and Caddy Paul Tesori are seen discussing strategies for the 2nd hole during the 3rd round of the Valspar Championship.

Simpson announced, "I am going a different path now with Tesori, who has been with me for 12 years. It was an extremely difficult decision for both of us." He continued, "I will never forget the achievements we accomplished together. I could never have done it without him," and praised him, saying, "He was my closest friend in this world."

The reason for the split between Simpson and Tesori has not been revealed. However, it appears that Simpson sought a change of atmosphere as he suffered from a nearly three-year win drought on the PGA Tour since his 2020 RBC Heritage victory and had poor results this year. Simpson participated in 10 tournaments this season and missed the cut five times. His only top 10 finish was a tie for 7th place at the Valspar Championship on the 20th, which was the last event he worked with Tesori.

Tesori will continue to play the role of a ‘top-tier assistant’ on the PGA Tour. Immediately after parting ways with Simpson, he signed an exclusive caddie contract with Cameron Young (USA), who won the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year last season. Young has played in 36 PGA Tour events but has yet to win. He has finished runner-up five times, third twice, and placed in the top 10 eight times.
