A bill has been proposed to create an environment where people with disabilities can lead healthy and vibrant social lives.
According to the Gwangju Metropolitan Council on the 21st, City Councilor Lee Myung-no proposed the "Gwangju City Ordinance on the Creation and Support of a Disability-Friendly City."
The ordinance includes provisions to establish a disability-friendly city where people with disabilities can live conveniently and safely, aiming to improve their quality of life and promote regional social development, along with necessary support measures.
The main contents include ▲establishing a support plan for creating a disability-friendly city every four years ▲formulating and implementing annual action plans ▲building a cooperative system for a disability-friendly city ▲and forming and operating a council for the creation of a disability-friendly city.
Councilor Lee said, "'Disability-friendly' means enabling people with disabilities to lead healthy and vibrant social lives based on convenience and safety," and "'Disability-friendly city' refers to a city equipped with policies and living conditions that allow people with disabilities to live safely and conveniently in society."
He added, "Since the ordinance was reviewed and created together with the stakeholders, I hope that the disability-friendly city proclamation ceremony, which will be promoted starting from April 20, Disability Day, will be carried out more substantively rather than just symbolically."
