On the 22nd, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will hold the 'Declaration Ceremony of Korea's City of Books' at the Sara Sae Theater in Goyang Aram Nuri. This event marks the beginning of the Korea Reading Festival. The ceremony will include the declaration of the 'City of Books,' the presentation of the symbolic flag, and a bookshelf exchange project. Writer Eun Hee-kyung, author of The Name of the Rose is Rose, and poet Oh Eun, known for Poetry for People Eating Lunch Alone, will also give lectures.

Goyang City was selected as the 'City of Books' through a public contest last September. It received high praise for its solid reading infrastructure, including nineteen municipal libraries and ninety-seven small libraries, and for operating over 600 reading culture programs.

Under the theme "Changing Myself While Reading, Growing Together," Goyang City will run various reading culture programs throughout the year. These include the ▲Reading Citizens Project, ▲Where Our Voices Meet, and ▲Sharing Sentences. The Korea Reading Festival will be held from September 1 to 3 around Ilsan Lake Park and throughout Goyang City.
