[One Day Walk] Into the Side Streets from Witgongdae... The Beginning and End of Seoul National University

[Editor's Note] Seoul National University Gwanak Campus covers an area of 4,108,000㎡, which is larger than Yeouido (2,900,000㎡). The SNU Sports Promotion Center is conducting a health project called SNUWALK to encourage walking among campus members, using the Gwanak Campus as the stage, and has created a SNUWALK map. We introduce walking courses at Seoul National University that are useful not only for SNU members but also for the general public.

SNU Sairo is a trail that walks along small paths within the campus. It consists of 7 sections, forming a diagonal path from the main gate of SNU to the Upper Engineering Building. The total distance is 10 km, taking about 1 hour and 45 minutes, burning approximately 520 kcal. The Sports Promotion Center’s recommended course passes through the main gate and the back gate. It is a meaningful walking path for those dreaming of admission and graduation, passing the beginning and end of Seoul National University. Starting from the main gate, the route goes through the Dormitory Intersection and the SNU Back Gate, covering 2.8 km in about 25 minutes, burning 185 kcal.

Places worth visiting along the small paths include the Museum, Central Library, Art Museum, Gyujanggak, and the Culture Center. The Museum was established in 1946 alongside the founding of the university and serves as a research institution guarding major excavation sites domestically and internationally, as well as a representative cultural space of SNU. The Central Library, located at the heart of SNU, houses 5.2 million volumes of monographs, about 260,000 types of academic journals, electronic journals, and approximately 230,000 non-book materials. Gyujanggak is a repository of ancient Korean books and holds four UNESCO-designated World Documentary Heritage items (Annals of the Joseon Dynasty, Seungjeongwon Ilgi, Ilseongnok, and Uigwe).
