LG Electronics President Jo Joo-wan Visits Latin America to Promote Busan Expo Bid

Visiting Brazil and Chile as Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs

LG Electronics is making every effort to attract the ‘2030 Busan World Expo (Busan Expo)’ ahead of the on-site inspection by the International Bureau of Expositions (BIE) in Busan next month.


LG Electronics announced on the 19th that CEO Jo Jun-wan visited Latin American countries such as Brazil and Chile as a special envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea and received positive responses regarding the hosting of the Busan Expo from parliamentarians and government officials of each country.


On the 13th, CEO Jo met with Rodrigo Pacheco, President of the Brazilian Senate, and invited 15 local members of both the upper and lower houses to the Korean Embassy in Brazil to explain the significance and determination to host the Busan Expo. At the meeting, CEO Jo introduced Busan as “an eco-friendly smart city that integrates innovative technologies” and “the optimal place to seek a better future for humanity.”

On the 14th, CEO Jo moved to Chile and met with Claudia Sanhueza, Deputy Minister of International Economic Affairs of the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Sebasti?n G?mez, Director General of Bilateral Economic Affairs of the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Korea-Chile FTA chief negotiator, to request support for hosting the Busan Expo. He emphasized that Busan is a transportation and logistics hub in Northeast Asia and a city with abundant cultural content and tourism infrastructure.


Earlier, at the end of last year, CEO Jo visited three African countries?Tanzania, C?te d'Ivoire, and Ethiopia?as a special envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea and requested support for hosting the Busan Expo from government officials of each country.


To attract the Busan Expo, LG Electronics formed a task force (TF) last year and has been promoting Busan worldwide, including in Korea, North America, Europe, and Africa. Related videos are being showcased on outdoor electronic billboards in international cities such as Times Square in New York, USA, and Piccadilly Circus in London, UK, as well as on electronic billboards at the entrance of Busan Gimhae International Airport and inside the terminal of Gimpo International Airport.


Meanwhile, during this Latin America trip, CEO Jo discussed ways to expand cooperation between LG Electronics and local companies with government officials from Brazil and Chile. He also visited LG Electronics’ overseas subsidiaries in the Latin America region and key sites to review business status and strategies and encouraged local employees.
