A 3cm metal spring was found in the lung of a 5-year-old child from Paraguay who had been coughing for three months.
According to the British daily The Sun on the 16th (local time), the child had been coughing severely from December last year until recently.
When the child visited Villarrica Hospital in the Guaira Department of Paraguay for treatment and underwent an X-ray, a metal spring was found embedded in the left lung.
The child was immediately transferred to the National Respiratory Hospital of Paraguay, and on the 8th, surgery was performed successfully to remove the spring from the lung.
The child is currently reported to be in stable condition. However, it has not been confirmed how the spring entered the child’s lung.
Dr. Carlos Morinigo, who treated the child, said, “The surgery was difficult due to lung damage caused while the spring was embedded,” and added, “Even if the child recovers, lung capacity may be reduced for the time being, but this is expected to improve as the child grows.”
