Earlier, President Yoon visited Japan for two days in a 'working visit' format starting the previous day. This was the first bilateral visit by a Korean president in 12 years.

On the first day of his arrival in Japan, President Yoon attended a meeting with Korean residents in Japan as his first schedule, followed by a summit meeting, a state dinner, and social time with Prime Minister Kishida Fumio at the Prime Minister's residence.

At the Korea-Japan summit, President Yoon and Prime Minister Kishida agreed on restoring Korea-Japan shuttle diplomacy, normalizing the General Security of Military Information Agreement (GSOMIA), and launching an economic security consultative body.

On that day, they also held meetings with Japanese political figures, a Korea-Japan business roundtable, and a future generation lecture for Korean and Japanese university students at Keio University.
