Households with three or more children residing in Uiryeong, Gyeongnam, will receive 100,000 KRW per month from next year until their children reach 18 years of age after starting school.
Uiryeong-gun will become the first in the nation to provide multi-child benefit support payments to families with three or more children up to the age of 18. The county announced the implementation of the "Uiryeong-type Multi-Child Family Strong Allowance Project," which includes this support plan.
Currently, through the "Support Project for Infants and Toddlers with Three or More Children," 300,000 KRW per month is provided to children before starting school. With the new "Uiryeong-type Multi-Child Family Strong Allowance Project," additional support payments will be given until the children reach 18 years of age after starting school.
This project aims to leverage the county’s top-ranked total fertility rate in Gyeongnam by implementing preferential policies for multi-child families.
The county’s special policy for multi-child families includes a childbirth incentive of 13 million KRW for the third child, which as of November last year, is the second highest in Gyeongnam after Hadong-gun. Additionally, the "Support Project for Infants and Toddlers with Three or More Children," which provides 300,000 KRW monthly to children before school age, is a unique multi-child policy exclusive to the county.
The Uiryeong-type Multi-Child Family Strong Allowance Project, expected to benefit about 150 families, is anticipated to spark a "multi-child birth wave," maintain the county’s number one birth rate, and attract school-age population inflow.
County Governor Oh Tae-wan stated, “It is time to create a turnaround with bold policies that go beyond previous policy measures from a long-term perspective,” adding, “We want to be recognized as a model case of population increase through the success of this groundbreaking policy.”
The county plans to enter the ordinance amendment process after final consultations with the Ministry of Health and Welfare next month and aims to implement the project starting in 2024.
