Yeongam Police Station in Jeollanam-do announced on the 17th that they have arrested high school student A (15) for violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes (joint assault) after locking a peer student in a motel and assaulting him collectively, and sent him to the prosecution.
The police also booked two accomplices, including a juvenile offender, without detention on the same charges.
A and others are accused of locking peer B in a motel room in Mokpo on the 10th and collectively beating him.
According to the police investigation, they recorded the assault on video and confiscated B’s belongings.
B, who was assaulted by A and others, was diagnosed with broken ribs and severe facial injuries requiring six weeks of treatment and was hospitalized.
A and others reportedly committed these acts while being pursued by the police for breaking into a parked vehicle in Yeongam and stealing valuables.
The police have added charges of special theft against A and others.
The education authorities plan to initiate disciplinary procedures, as A and others, who are students, are believed to have committed other school violence incidents as well.
