Former Blue House Chief of Public Relations Refutes Lee In-gyu's Memoir
"If the Evidence Was Clear, Why Couldn't the Prosecution Indict?"
Former Blue House Chief of Public Relations Jo Gi-sook recalled the 2009 investigation of former President Roh Moo-hyun by the prosecution on the 17th in a post on social media, stating, "President Roh was in a very good mood after visiting the prosecution."
Jo explained that former President Roh said something to the effect of, "I was indeed nervous before appearing at the prosecution, wondering if there was something I didn't know. But when I actually went, there was nothing. I felt confident that we could win this fight and that it was worth trying."
Jo's post came in the course of criticizing the memoir of former Deputy Chief of the Central Investigation Department at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, Lee In-kyu. In his memoir titled 'I Was a Prosecutor of the Republic of Korea ? Who Killed Roh Moo-hyun?' (Jogabje.com), Lee claimed to have secured sufficient physical evidence to indict former President Roh and obtain a guilty verdict.

Jo, who was one of the people who frequently communicated with the president, said, "I cannot trust your (Lee In-kyu’s) claims," and questioned, "If the evidence was so certain, why was the prosecution unable to indict President Roh or take any other action from April 29, when he appeared at the prosecution, until May 23, when Mrs. Kwon was re-summoned?"
Jo further asked, "Why did the prosecution fail to release Chairman Kang Geum-won on the promised date under bail for health reasons, which led former President Roh to make some kind of resolution? Was imprisoning Kang Geum-won, who was dying of a brain tumor, for reasons below common sense intended to inflict severe mental torture on former President Roh?"
Jo warned, "This book is a double death for the deceased and the bereaved family. Please reveal evidence that former President Roh was aware of Mrs. Kwon’s receipt of funds. If you cannot, you will not be able to escape the judgment of the law."
