Government Explores Environment to Take Over the Baton from 'The Glory'

Discussion on Sustainable Measures at the Broadcasting Video Leaders Forum Meeting

The government is seeking ways to sustain the global status of domestic broadcasting and OTT content. This will be addressed at the '2023 Broadcasting and Video Leaders Forum 1st Meeting' held on the 17th at the CKL Enterprise Support Center in Jung-gu, Seoul. The results of presentations and discussions by industry, academia, and research experts will be reflected in policy.

The meeting will focus on policy directions to implement the K-content export strategy derived from last month's '4th Export Strategy Meeting.' Kim Dohyung, Director of the Media Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "We will closely communicate with industry stakeholders and experts to steadily promote policies that are felt on the ground."

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has significantly increased the budget for supporting broadcasting and OTT content this year. By adding well-structured policies for planning and development, production, export, professional workforce training, and infrastructure expansion, they aim to intensively nurture content such as "Jaebeoljip Maknae Adeul" and "The Glory."

A representative project is the 'OTT Specialized Content Production Support.' The intellectual property (IP), a core element of revenue generation, is jointly owned by production companies and domestic OTT operators, and the content is prioritized for release on domestic OTT platforms to support mutual growth. The project scale is about 45.4 billion KRW, roughly four times larger than last year. The support amount per work has also been raised to a maximum of 3 billion KRW.
