The disease that our people worry about the most in their old age is 'dementia and cerebrovascular disease,' and last year, 'cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases' ranked second among chronic diseases in Korea. Walking 10,000 steps a day (6~7 km, 1~2 hours) stimulates the brain and muscles, reducing the incidence of geriatric diseases. Writing 1,000 characters a day also greatly helps improve cognitive abilities and thinking skills, which can easily decline with age. Therefore, Asia Economy's '10,000 Steps and 1,000 Characters a Day' campaign is expected to bring a very positive impact on protecting the brain health of our people as we enter the super-aged society.
I also enjoy hiking so much that there is hardly any famous mountain over 1,000 meters in Korea that I haven't visited. When I receive difficulties from member companies through the association's communication channel, the 'CoscaTalk' app, I jot down ideas for solutions whenever I can. By participating in this campaign, I plan to practice these daily walking and writing activities even more diligently.
Near the Korea Specialty Contractors Association Central Office located in Dongjak-gu, there is Boramae Park. It has walking trails, jogging courses, a pond, a lawn plaza, and a large fountain, where association executives and employees, including myself, enjoy walking exercises before work or during breaks. I recommend visiting at least once on a pleasant day for a walk.
In construction work, the most important task is the foundation work that properly prepares and compacts the site of the building. Just as a building with a strong foundation lasts long, the better your basic physical strength, the longer you can stay healthy. In that sense, the meaning of Asia Economy's '10,000 Steps and 1,000 Characters a Day' campaign is very significant and precious. I wholeheartedly support the practice and health of everyone participating.
