'Korea-Indonesia New City Cooperation Forum' Held in Jakarta
Won Hee-ryong Supports One Team Korea... Sharing Infrastructure Vision
"Indonesia was the top country in overseas construction orders last year, making its strategic importance common knowledge. Moving forward, it is crucial to determine which projects to collaborate on to achieve results and to draw a big picture aligned with Indonesia's national development and the desires of its people."
On the 16th, Won Hee-ryong, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, attended the 'Korea-Indonesia New City Cooperation Forum' held at the Mulia Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia, where he shared visions of innovative technology and infrastructure between the two countries.
Visiting Indonesia as the leader of One Team Korea, Minister Won solidified cooperation on the relocation of the capital (new capital) and infrastructure development. Officials from both countries reflected on the significance of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year and expected that the event would strengthen cooperative ties.
Minister Won likened Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Public Works and Housing of Indonesia, to the 'Main Gate' to Indonesia, and Gandhi Sulistiyanto, Indonesian Ambassador to Korea, to the 'Master Key man,' showcasing his close relationships.
Minister Won said, "Minister Basuki is among the longest-serving ministers and is also a close ally. Without the need for a mutual exploration period, he will play a central role in drawing a big picture aimed at the global market together with the governments and companies of both countries."
He added, "Ambassador Gandhi has experience in every business, including telecommunications. As a successful business leader, the talents he has nurtured hold key positions in the Indonesian government, including the new capital authority. Recognizing them and building strong trust is essential."
Minister Basuki stated that the capital relocation project reflects the future cooperative relationship between the two countries. He said, "It is a core project mobilizing all manpower. We are striving to create a city with innovative design and sufficient capabilities. In particular, we are proceeding while preserving the environment, such as refraining from cutting down trees recklessly."
The Indonesian capital relocation is an infrastructure project worth a total of 40 trillion won, carried out in five phases until 2045. It is known that the plan was made due to issues such as Jakarta's land subsidence and rising sea levels.
The forum was attended by 52 Korean companies including Samsung C&T, LG CNS, Hyundai Motor Company, SAMG Entertainment, Naver Cloud, and POSCO International, as well as public institutions such as the Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation (KIND), Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH), Korea Water Resources Corporation, Korea Land and Geospatial Informatix Corporation (LX), National Railroad Corporation, and Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), along with related organizations such as the Overseas Construction Association and Korea Housing Association. The total number of participants was about 150.
From Indonesia, more than 150 people from 13 institutions including the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, the New Capital Authority, the Real Estate Association, the Chamber of Commerce, the Sovereign Wealth Fund, and Danareksa (a financial public enterprise), as well as 51 companies, participated.
During the forum, the two countries signed a total of five Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) including ▲ financial cooperation for infrastructure and urban development projects between KIND and Danareksa ▲ cooperation on Jakarta Metro and new capital smart city development between Samsung C&T and WIKA ▲ smart airport operation solution cooperation between LG CNS and GMF Aero Asia ▲ smart road lighting project cooperation between Ecolant and PT INKA ▲ smart city construction project cooperation between ESE and TELKOM.
