Mayor Oh Se-hoon Attends Healthy City Mayors' Meeting

Promoting Excellent Policies for Health Equity to the World

On the 15th (local time), Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon attended the 'World Healthy Cities Partnership Mayors' Meeting' held at the St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel in London, where he promoted 'Seoul's excellent policies for improving health inequality' and discussed cooperation measures to prevent non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and cancer.

At the first-ever 'World Healthy Cities Partnership Mayors' Meeting' this year, mayors from over 20 cities worldwide, along with more than 50 city officials and experts, participated to present health policies and achievements by city and to discuss future policy directions aimed at creating healthier and more vibrant cities.

On this day, Mayor Oh shared Seoul’s exemplary smart healthcare cases utilizing digital technology and smoking cessation policies promoted to resolve health inequalities after the COVID-19 pandemic during a closed roundtable discussion attended only by mayors from over 20 cities.

Afterwards, Mayor Oh held a meeting with Michael Bloomberg, founder of the Bloomberg Foundation and global ambassador of the World Health Organization, to discuss expanding cooperative projects for protecting the health of Seoul citizens and strengthening joint responses to climate change.

Since 2018, Seoul has participated in the 'Healthy Cities Partnership,' supported by the Bloomberg Foundation and in collaboration with the World Health Organization and the Vital Strategies Foundation, jointly conducting projects in obesity and smoking cessation through budgetary and technical support.

Seoul plans to continue collaborating with the Bloomberg Foundation, the World Health Organization, and others to develop policies protecting socially vulnerable groups and reducing health disparities, and to maintain cooperative relationships for building a healthy city through the prevention of non-communicable diseases.
