Busan Port Authority (BPA) held an online information exchange meeting on hydrogen port development with Hamburg Port Authority, Germany, on the 14th.
At the exchange meeting, BPA and Hamburg Port Authority introduced their hydrogen port development plans and ongoing projects and shared opinions.
BPA presented the progress of the hydrogen refueling station construction project for container trucks at Busan New Port North, which participated in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's hydrogen refueling station construction public project in 2021.
Hamburg Port introduced hydrogen port promotion activities involving various entities such as Hamburg Port Authority, HHLA (Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG, Hamburg's largest container terminal operator), and HPC (Hamburg Port Consulting, a consulting firm under HHLA).
The northern Germany region where Hamburg is located has geographical advantages and developed infrastructure for the hydrogen economy, with comprehensive projects underway from green hydrogen production to transportation, storage, supply, and utilization.
Ongoing projects include establishing hydrogen production facilities, building hydrogen infrastructure (pipelines), activating the hydrogen industry, and hydrogen mobility.
Officials from Busan Port Authority (BPA) and Hamburg Port Authority in Germany are conducting an information exchange meeting related to the establishment of a hydrogen port.
Hamburg Port is also advancing the Hamburg Hydrogen Cluster, involving HPA (Hamburg Port Authority), HHLA, port logistics companies, research institutes, hydrogen production companies, IT firms, storage warehouses, equipment manufacturers (Hyster Yale Group), overseas ports, and energy companies.
Cluster participants conduct joint research to ensure hydrogen can be used as a stable energy source for ports and logistics, continuously testing developed hydrogen equipment with plans to deploy it at actual terminal sites in the future.
Kang Jun-seok, President of BPA, said, “Both Busan and Hamburg are interested in carbon neutrality and realizing hydrogen ports, so continuous cooperation is expected. Hamburg has strengths in hydrogen production and management, while Korea has strengths in hydrogen mobility-related facilities, so we will seek complementary cooperation points and continue discussions.”
