Kick-off Ceremony for the Itaewon Commercial District Revitalization Project
At 2 PM on the 15th, an on-site meeting titled ‘On-site Meeting for the Revitalization of the Itaewon Commercial District’ was held at the lounge bar near Itaewon Station in Yongsan-gu, Seoul (Itaewon Bronze).
The on-site meeting was held in the form of a kick-off ceremony to promote the Itaewon Commercial District Revitalization Project, where discussions on recovery measures and project promotion directions took place.
The main attendees included ▲ Lee Young, Minister of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, Kim Seonsu, Acting Mayor of Yongsan-gu, Kim Younghwan, Director of Seoul Tourism and Sports Bureau, and other government officials ▲ representatives from merchant associations such as the Tourism Special Zone Federation and the National Merchants Federation ▲ and representatives from commercial district planning, promotion, and event specialized agencies.
Kim Seonsu, Acting Mayor of Yongsan-gu, stated, “We are making multifaceted efforts, including promoting cultural and artistic performances, to restore the vitality of the Itaewon commercial district,” and added, “We will continue to actively cooperate with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Seoul Metropolitan Government to ensure that administrative support is not neglected.”

The Dongdaemun-gu Fashion Sewing Support Center is recruiting 32 students for the ‘2023 First Half Sewing Practical Training’ until the 21st to cultivate specialized personnel in the local fashion and sewing industry.
The ‘Sewing Practical Training’ is an educational program implemented to support the representative manufacturing industry of fashion sewing in the area, nurture sewing personnel (seamstresses), and strengthen the capabilities of those engaged in sewing-related work.
In the first half of the year, four courses will be offered: Basic Sewing, Advanced Sewing, Basic CAD, and Advanced CAD. The number of students to be recruited is 12, 6, 7, and 7 respectively, and all courses are free of charge.
The Basic Sewing course covers the use of sewing equipment and basic clothing production processes, while the Advanced Sewing course is an in-depth clothing production course for those wishing to work in sewing companies. The Basic and Advanced CAD courses are designed for those seeking to improve their CAD job skills, conducted as Apparel Yuka CAD basic/advanced courses.
Anyone residing in Dongdaemun-gu or working at a local clothing manufacturing company can apply by bringing the required documents and visiting the Dongdaemun-gu Fashion Sewing Support Center in person or applying via email by the 21st.

Park Sangjin, Director of the Economic Promotion Division, said, “We hope this sewing practical training will be helpful to residents, including experienced women, who wish to find employment in sewing companies,” and added, “We will do our best to provide high-quality practical training to inject new personnel into the sewing industry, which has been stagnating due to aging existing workers, and to achieve employment growth effects.”
