This is the shock felt by Jang Min, a POSCO TECH adjunct professor and CEO of Neural Works Lab, who has devoted 30 years to the field of artificial intelligence (AI). After completing his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in computer engineering at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), Jang immersed himself in AI both in industry and academia, working at Hangul and Computer, Douzone Bizon, LG Electronics, and Seoul National University. Despite dedicating time and effort to various research and application service developments, he encountered technical limitations. Upon encountering the conversational AI 'ChatGPT' 30 years after entering POSTECH graduate school in March 1993, he felt, "The real thing has finally arrived."

Based on the author's expertise, it quickly reviews the stages of AI technology development across various companies while incorporating experiences and insights from the industrial field. It explains the limitations companies have faced and how they overcame them, as well as why global IT giants like Google and Microsoft are staking their lives on the AI war. Furthermore, it contemplates how these trends will affect individuals' lives and society.

In the author's view, ChatGPT is the beginning of a complete transformation. He emphasizes that it is an opportunity not only for companies but also for ordinary people to change their lives. Jang states, "The shock we felt when AlphaGo defeated Lee Sedol in Go in 2016 is fading and is now taken for granted. The shock of ChatGPT is much stronger and is expected to usher in an era where humans and machines coexist. Therefore, we must not reject irreversible change but actively participate in it."

ChatGPT is a type of generative AI. It learns from vast amounts of information to create new content such as photos, text, and music. A particularly important point is that human participation is necessary. To solve problems using generative AI, a human user is essential. Ultimately, mastering how to accurately utilize generative AI will determine survival in the future. Jang points out, "It is very similar to how people discovered the uses of the internet after it was made available to the general public in the 1980s. Only a very small number understand the principles or logic of generative AI models themselves, but using them is a different matter."

Therefore, he predicts that experts who skillfully use generative AI will emerge as a new occupational group. Representative examples are 'prompt engineers' who actively use tools like 'DALL·E 2' and 'Midjourney' to create images with generative AI. These specialists are adept at precisely describing the desired image to AI through commands (prompts). Instead of simply typing "draw a picture of a dog," they issue commands that accurately implement the user's desired conditions, such as "a portrait of a dog taken with a 50mm camera." Additionally, jobs that extract prompts from AI-generated images or AI models and application programming interfaces (APIs) may also emerge. This is similar to how the smartphone platform gave rise to various app developers and companies.

Moreover, the book addresses social issues such as human-AI ethics, copyright, and institutional arrangements. It covers domestic and international legislative movements along with various concerns. Ultimately, the unchanging fact is that ChatGPT brings significant change. Therefore, Jang emphasizes until the end, "Even if you are late in other areas, you must be at the very forefront of the next world when it comes to ChatGPT."
