‘Digital Financial Hub, Seoul’ Topic
On the 14th (local time), Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon presented the vision of Seoul as an Asian financial hub under the theme of ‘Digital Financial Hub, Seoul’ at the '2023 London Conference' jointly hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the London Stock Exchange.
As the keynote speaker, Mayor Oh explained that Seoul has a globally high digital finance usage rate and excellent infrastructure, emphasizing that it is a city with high growth potential in the digital finance industry.
Additionally, Mayor Oh outlined various benefits provided to overseas financial companies established in the Yeouido International Financial Center, ▲plans to improve residential environments and build infrastructure for foreign financial workers, and presented incentives for global companies and investors to actively invest in Seoul.
He then attended the first-ever investment attraction briefing (IR) for domestic fintech companies held at the London Stock Exchange, introducing the competitiveness of five Korean fintech companies in the fields of artificial intelligence and blockchain (Horizon Technology, iGnet, Agen Global, Moin, and Jarvis & Villains) to global investors, supporting their investment attraction efforts.
Furthermore, the Seoul Investment Agency and the London Stock Exchange signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to promote foreign investment attraction for Seoul companies and support their entry into the European capital market. Going forward, companies with high investment potential plan to pursue listings on London’s specialized SME markets such as AIM.
Following this, Mayor Oh visited Mansion House, the birthplace of London’s financial district, and held a meeting with Nicholas Lyons, the Lord Mayor of London Financial District. At this meeting, Mayor Oh conveyed Seoul’s commitment to fostering the digital finance industry and investment attraction environment, and actively encouraged investment by proposing the entry of promising UK fintech companies into Seoul, as Seoul operates an International Financial Office for attracting overseas financial firms.
Finally, he attended the ‘Korean Businesspeople Meeting in the UK’ held at the ambassador’s residence, encouraging Korean businesspeople in the UK and listening to their suggestions and difficulties encountered by Korean entrepreneurs operating locally.
