On the same day, Kyodo News cited a Japanese government official saying that Prime Minister Kishida is considering a visit to Korea after the upcoming G7 summit held in Hiroshima in May.

President Yoon Suk-yeol is scheduled to visit Japan on the 16th and 17th. Kyodo News explained that Kishida's consideration of a visit to Korea reflects a determination to fully resume "shuttle diplomacy" and accelerate the improvement of Korea-Japan relations.

The reciprocal visits of the two countries' leaders were suspended after former President Lee Myung-bak's visit to Japan in 2011. President Yoon's visit to Japan marks the first summit visit in about 12 years.
