A man in his 30s who threatened his girlfriend with a weapon after she broke up with him has been sent to trial while in custody.
On the 14th, the Criminal Division 2 of the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Yong-gyun) indicted Mr. A, in his late 30s, on charges of threatening his girlfriend Ms. B with a weapon, assault, and confinement (special injury, special confinement, etc.) while in custody.
According to the prosecution, Mr. A went to Ms. B's house in Songpa-gu, Seoul, on the 19th of last month and wielded a weapon, injuring Ms. B's knee. He also confined Ms. B in the house for nine hours.
Ms. B visited the hospital with Mr. A, pleading "Please just let me receive treatment," and reported Mr. A to the police through a nurse. Mr. A, who was urgently arrested, admitted to the charges, stating that he committed the crime after his partner Ms. B requested a breakup.
The prosecution also confirmed that Mr. A assaulted Ms. B whenever he checked her cellphone and saw messages exchanged with other men, applying charges of special coercion. A prosecution official said, "The victim expressed extreme anxiety and pain, so we requested the Crime Victim Support Center to provide medical expenses and psychological treatment support."
