Training Next-Generation Talent in the IoT Home Appliance Sector
The Engineering Education Innovation Center at Pukyong National University received the highest rating (Excellent) in the 2022 phase evaluation of the 'Creative Convergence Engineering Talent Cultivation Support Project' organized by the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
In this phase evaluation conducted for 73 universities across 13 consortia, Pukyong National University was recognized for its achievements in contributing to the cultivation of creative engineering talents through establishing the innovation direction of engineering education in the College of Engineering, developing and operating engineering education programs tailored to industry demands and university characteristics.
The Engineering Education Innovation Center at Pukyong National University was selected as the top-ranked consortium in the 'IoT Home Appliances' industry sector under the 'Next Generation Life Style' category of the Creative Convergence Engineering Talent Cultivation Support Project, which has been operated by industry-specific consortia since March last year.
The consortium includes Pukyong National University, Pusan National University, Gyeongsang National University, Dongmyung University, Dongseo University, and Inje University, aiming to cultivate core talents for 'IoT-based DX Home Appliance Intelligence Innovation.' It has received approximately 8.4 billion KRW in support from the government, universities, and local governments and is scheduled to operate until February 2028.
Son Min-young, director of the center at Pukyong National University, said, “Building on this excellent evaluation, we will continue to strive for the cultivation of creative and convergent engineering talents and the development of the College of Engineering. We will also provide high-quality education to achieve the consortium’s common goals and work hard to nurture outstanding local talents capable of responding to future new industries.”
The Engineering Education Innovation Center at Pukyong National University has been consecutively selected for this project in the first phase (5 years) in 2007, the second phase (10 years) in 2012, and the third phase (6 years) in 2022. It has also been awarded the 'University of the Year' (Grand Prize) by the Southeast Region Engineering Education Innovation Center in 2018, 2020, and 2021, and was recognized as an excellent engineering education innovation center and recipient of the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy’s citation for engineering education innovation contributors (organization) in 2022, contributing to the cultivation of creative engineering talents and enhancing the global competitiveness of engineering education.
