Changwon Chamber of Commerce Calls for Policies to Boost Pride in Local Heritage Companies

Proposal for Enactment of Ordinance to Foster and Support Model Long-Established Companies by Gyeongnam Province, Gyeongnam Provincial Council, Changwon City, and Changwon City Council

On the 14th, the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Gyeongnam proposed the enactment of the "Ordinance for Fostering and Supporting Model Long-Established Companies" to Gyeongsangnam-do, the Gyeongnam Provincial Council, Changwon City, and the Changwon City Council.

In the proposal, Changwon Chamber of Commerce stated, "Gyeongsangnam-do, including Changwon, is home to many companies that have grown alongside the emergence of domestic industries such as machinery, shipbuilding, steel and metal, and electrical and electronics. These companies have played a central role not only in Korea's industrial production and exports but also in job creation and social contribution, significantly contributing to regional development," explaining the background of the proposal.

Additionally, since regions such as Chungcheongnam-do, Ulsan Metropolitan City, Gyeonggi-do, and Busan Metropolitan City have enacted and are implementing ordinances like the "Ordinance for Fostering and Supporting Model Long-Established Companies" and the "Ordinance on Fostering and Supporting Local Companies," it was stated that our region also needs to prepare policies that favor related companies to encourage long-established companies that fulfill social responsibilities and serve as models for regional economic development.

Accordingly, they proposed the enactment of an ordinance to foster and support model long-established companies that have contributed to regional development, aiming not only for the continuous growth of local companies but also for the spread of a respected corporate culture.

According to data from Korea Evaluation Data, there are currently 2,605 companies with over 30 years of business experience (excluding retail, wholesale, and personal services) operating in Gyeongsangnam-do, including 885 in Changwon City (622 in manufacturing) and 1,827 in manufacturing across the province.

A representative from the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry said, "It is as important to create an environment where existing local companies can operate their industrial and economic activities with pride within the region as it is to make efforts to attract new companies for regional development."
