DKZ Kyungyoon "I feel like I've been gradually brainwashed by JMS... I will leave the church"

Kyungyoon, a member of the idol group 'DKZ' who became embroiled in controversy after his parents were revealed to be followers of the Christian Gospel Mission (JMS), stated, "Although it's late, I will leave the church now."

On the 13th, Kyungyoon told the entertainment media 'Dispatch' in an interview, "I think I was gradually brainwashed by JMS." He added, "My parents have been attending JMS for over 20 years, and I was also raised in the faith. Recently, I watched the Netflix documentary 'I Am a God' and thought, 'This is crazy,' but at that time, I didn't realize it."

However, Kyungyoon emphasized that he never engaged in proselytizing JMS during his idol activities. He said, "When the controversy (related to JMS) started, I was scared. I tried to block it out, but I felt sorry seeing the pain of the victims, and I will leave the church even now."

Earlier, on the 3rd, interest in JMS surged following the release of the Netflix documentary 'I Am a God.' On social networking services (SNS) and online communities, lists of addresses of related facilities were shared with the intent to prevent JMS-related harm.

The problem was that the list included the address of a cafe operated by Kyungyoon's parents. Some netizens raised suspicions, questioning whether Kyungyoon's family were JMS followers.

As the suspicions grew, DKZ's agency, 'Dongyo Entertainment,' released an official statement on the 7th, saying, "After confirming with Kyungyoon and his family regarding the business operated by his family, Kyungyoon believed it was a normal, regular church that his parents attended until he received many reports and saw the broadcast content about a specific group. He had never encountered or been aware of the related broadcast content."

They continued, "As soon as he learned the truth, Kyungyoon immediately checked the broadcast content and was horrified. The business operated by his family was immediately closed, and all aspects related to the specific group were verified, leading to his departure from the church. There will be no further connection in the future."
