"Please Pay Close Attention to Prevent Unfortunate Incidents"
Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok urged to "exercise meticulous care" regarding the death of Jeon Mo, the first chief of staff during Lee Jae-myung's tenure as governor of Gyeonggi Province.
On the morning of the 13th, Prosecutor General Lee convened a meeting of the heads (chief prosecutors) at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office and stated, "Nothing is more precious than human life," adding, "I pray for the deceased's soul and sincerely offer my deepest condolences to the bereaved family."
He continued, "This burden continuously follows prosecutors like fate. It feels like carrying a heavy stone in a corner of the heart at all times."
He then urged, "Please pay more meticulous attention so that such tragic incidents do not happen again, ensuring that actions are 'in accordance with the law, the principles of the world, and human compassion.'"
Jeon, who worked alongside Lee since Lee served as mayor of Seongnam, was found dead at his home on the 9th.
Jeon was under investigation by the prosecution last December over allegations involving Lee’s receipt of 4 billion won in sponsorship funds for Seongnam FC from Naver in exchange for resolving civil complaints.
The prosecution stated, "During last year’s investigation, a video-recorded interrogation related to Seongnam FC was conducted once, and since then, there have been no additional investigations or summonses. No other investigations or summonses have been made by the prosecution office."
