Dobong-gu Promotes Career Mentoring Program with Alumni
Supports 10 High Schools with a Total of 36 Million KRW
One-on-One Career Counseling and Guidance Matching Alumni with Current Students
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) is launching the ‘Career Mentoring for High School Students with Alumni’ program to enhance academic achievement and provide career exploration opportunities for local high school students.
The ‘Career Mentoring for High School Students with Alumni’ program aims to strengthen bonds between seniors and juniors by having schools recruit alumni as mentors and match them one-on-one with their alma mater’s current students to share experiences.
The mentoring sessions are conducted by matched alumni who provide career counseling and guidance to their juniors. Each mentor will hold about 10 sessions, and the program is autonomously managed by schools based on budget and student demand.
The district supports up to 4 million KRW per school for 10 high schools within a total budget limit of 36 million KRW, accepting applications from schools until March 15.
Funding decisions will be finalized after review of applications, with disbursement scheduled by March 24. For more details, inquiries can be made to the Dobong-gu Education Support Division.
Mayor Oh Eon-seok of Dobong-gu stated, “We hope the ‘Learning and Career Mentoring with Alumni’ program will contribute to spreading social knowledge sharing in the community,” and added, “We ask schools to actively participate in this mentoring program where alumni can share their vivid and valuable experiences with their juniors.”
Nowon-gu Fully Committed to Discovering Senior Citizen Jobs Tailored to Local Characteristics

District-Owned ‘Senior Happiness Corporation’ Produces Masks and Explores New Business Opportunities
Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) is actively discovering senior citizen jobs and introducing various employment opportunities.
As of February this year, approximately 93,000 residents aged 65 and older live in Nowon-gu, ranking third among Seoul’s autonomous districts. With the advent of a super-aged society, rising dependency ratios, and increasing demand from seniors for economic independence as autonomous individuals, the importance of senior job programs is growing.
Accordingly, the district is making every effort to create quality and sustainable jobs.
Nowon-gu aims to provide jobs to about 6,000 seniors annually, with 5,584 participants currently engaged in 84 projects. Recently, it launched the ▲Our Village Tax Bill Delivery Captain project ▲Nowon-style Senior Jobs Clean Keeper Team ▲Senior Happiness Corporation’s mask production and sales business.
The nation’s first unique senior job, ‘Our Village Tax Bill Delivery Captain,’ selects one captain aged 60 or older per neighborhood to personally deliver local tax delinquency notices (photo).
Considering workload, delivery is primarily targeted at ‘general mail’ and ‘delinquent’ notices for residents living in ‘apartments.’ The activity period is one year, and participants receive about 160,000 KRW monthly as activity expenses. Last month, captains delivered a total of 9,155 delinquency notices.
This project stands out for ▲creating senior jobs by utilizing existing postal delivery budgets without additional funding ▲targeting ‘captains’ who, unlike community leaders, receive no separate activity allowance and have a 70% vacancy rate, while providing about 160,000 KRW in activity expenses to encourage future recruitment ▲preventing complaints about undelivered notices and increasing collection rates through direct delivery by seniors.
On March 3, a kickoff ceremony was held to mark the start of the ‘Nowon-style Senior Jobs’ program. This year, the program includes 410 Clean Keeper Team members who clean neighborhood back alleys and 90 lunch helpers at senior centers, totaling 500 participants.
Notably, the district has been steadily improving its cleaning administration system since 2018, earning ‘Best’ in the 2021 Seoul City Cleanliness Evaluation and ‘Excellent’ in 2022. Aiming for a trash-free clean city, the Clean Keeper Team was established as the first Nowon-style senior job. Members work two hours daily, focusing on neighborhood back alleys on weekdays and subway station surroundings on weekends.
Established on July 1, 2021, the ‘Nowon Senior Happiness Corporation’ has provided quality jobs to 203 seniors so far. Among its ventures, the ‘Health Mask Manufacturing and Sales Business’ is the corporation’s first independent revenue-generating project.
The manufacturing plant located in Hagye-dong has produced 430,000 masks to date, and in December last year, successfully registered its products on the Public Procurement Service’s Nara Marketplace, proving their excellence.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok of Nowon-gu said, “We are fully committed to discovering senior jobs that reflect Nowon’s unique character to ensure seniors enjoy active and fulfilling later years,” adding, “We will continue to lead in senior employment issues and strive to become a senior-friendly city with the highest job satisfaction.”
